The Mathilda book
details the story of the first born child of Lucifer and the leader
of all of Hell's armies: Mathilda. Mathilda has trained
her father's armies for all eternity for the final battle against the
Lord. It is her destiny to rip the gates of Heaven from their hinges
and wage war on the forces of good. It is even whispered that she is
destined to slay St. Michael. However, Mathilda has an epiphany
while in Hell and decides to defect to the side of Light and escapes
to regroup on Earth.
Once on the other side,
however, she finds herself in the form of an eight-year-old little girl.
She has full knowledge of who and what she is and was. She finds that
her former powers have been reduced 66%, but are still quite formidable
for any human under four feet tall. While on Earth, Mathilda begins
to learn what it means to be alive; why humans fight so hard for things
like love and peace.
Like all children,
Mathilda has a guardian angel. A fallen angel named Baker. Baker
has fallen because he has begun to question the ultimate wisdom of God.
He's seen too much over the ages. So much pain, destruction and utter
emptiness that he wonders if the old Man is getting a little rusty.
And yet, Baker, like all of the Fallen, still longs urgently to believe
in God's infallible reason and rhyme to everything. He wants to believe
that there is a purpose for all of blackness in the world. He wants
to believe that he just isn't enlightened enough to see the reason.
But his hope in eventually believing again is waning fast. Baker and
Mathilda don't get along too well. Baker doesn't know whose soul
inhabits this precocious eight-year-old girl; he just knows she's a
pain in the ass. But Baker wants to be whole again, and is trying with
all his Fallen-being to follow what God wants.
To complicate things,
Lucifer is none-to-happy that his favorite and first borne child and
leader of his armies has become a traitor, certainly not as He is about
to make war with God one final time. He has attached a Slacklar Daemon
to Mathilda. Slacklars are more impish than destructive and this
one in particular. It sets out to foil Mathilda's every effort.
This particular Slacklar is in the form of Mathilda's stuffed
panda bear, named Bela. Lucifer also has released Mathilda's brothers
& sisters. Each high-ruler of the 9 Circles are doing everything
in their full-reaching powers to outclass Mathilda and bring her
back to Hell.
Mathilda's hands
are full. She's trying to prevent the archdukes of Hell from consuming
our humanity, constantly fend off a Slacklar Daemon, contend with a
bitter Fallen Angel, and still pass the Third Grade.
